Library Impact Statements
For all new or revised courses a Library Impact Statement is required.
The purpose of a Library Impact Statement is to assess the ability of the Library
to support a new or revised unit being offered by Macquarie University.
It is important for the quality of all units offered by the University that the Library can provide access to relevant and timely information.
The completion of a Library Impact Statement is part of the unit approval process and allows Library staff sufficient time to liaise closely with the academic staff involved in the development of the unit. This ensures that the Library can offer the resources
and services required to support the new/revised program.
It is the responsibility of the Division proposing the new or revised unit to obtain a Library
Impact Statement before the unit proposal is submitted to the Academic Policy Committee. Template
is available at http://www.mq.edu.au/senate/forms.htm
The Library Impact Statement should accompany any unit proposal seeking resource approval.
Procedures
- Requests for a Library Impact Statement should be submitted to a Liaison Librarian.
- When making a request the Division is required to provide details about the unit (name, code, commencement date, mode of study etc.) and a description of the unit contents.
- The Library will undertake to complete all Library Impact Statements within two weeks of the submission of the application.
- The completed Library Impact Statement should be attached to the main unit submission and signed by the Manager, Information Access.
- The University Librarian will sign for a unit identified as having a substantial impact on Library resources and services.
