New Library website coming soon
(10/6/2009)The Library has spent the last two years reviewing the usability and usefulness of its current website. Recommendations, feedback and survey results from our clients and consultants have been used in the development of a new website. We will be going 'live' with this new site for 2nd Semester 2009.
Tips on Using Your Library
(6/3/09)- Desks, computers or study rooms that have been left unattended for 15 minutes can be used by others
- Lifts are for the movement of book trolleys and for mobility impaired people. Please use the stairs
- Keep the Library clean – put your rubbish in a bin
- Laptop cords cannot cross walkways
- Access to passages, fire doors and stairs must be kept clear
- Do not leave your valuables, like laptops, wallets and mobile phones unattended

New Services in Reserve – SelfCheck and Holds
(20/2/2009)With the arrival of a new SelfCheck machine in Reserve and Holds being moved into the Reserve area, we have expanded Self Service options within the Library. Macquarie and SIBT staff and students may now
- Borrow Reserve items using the new Selfcheck machine
- Collect and borrow Holds using the same machine.
Holds are shelved in Call Number order. If you are collecting a Hold, bring the Call number with you!
New features on Library catalogue!
(17/2/2009)The Library catalogue has undergone a significant upgrade. The catalogue now has a new look and new features, making it more intuitive and easier to use.
Some of the features now incorporated into the catalogue include:
- Tabs for subject and author searching
- Search terms highlighted on results pages
- An ‘action box’ to simplify placing holds, printing and exporting from the catalogue
- A warning when your session is about to expire
- Icons indicating the availability of an item
- A spell-check facility that can give suggestions when no search results are received
Get familiar with the new catalogue and all it has to offer.
We’re tagging 1.4 million items!
In preparation for the new Library we are tagging and barcoding some 1.4 million items. Expect some temporary closures to sections of the Collection as this work continues. Closed sections will be posted on a noticeboard as you enter the Library. See the iDesk on Level 2 for further information.
Take Your Reserve Loans OUT of the Library !!!
To give you more flexibility and convenience, you can now take your Reserve loans OUT of the Library.
This applies to all Reserve items with the exception of Serials, Private Copy, Reference & Closed Access.
The standard 3 hour Reserve Loan period remains.
You must remember to return Reserve Loans:
- On TIME
- to the RESERVE RETURNS chute
Online Training to Your Desktop 24/7! NOW AVAILABLE !!
A variety of FREE online training courses, specialising in Information Technology, that can be accessed 24 hours, 7 days a week. With online learning, training is delivered straight to your desktop. Take advantage of this convenient and relevant learning opportunity to train up on technology that interests you and will assist you in your work or study.
TO REGISTER or LOG-ON to Macquarie University’s On-line Learning you must first log into your Staff Portal / Student Portal, and then click on the grey tab at the top titled ‘Training & Development’.
New Library Website 2010
The Library is excited to announce the launch of its New Library 2010 website. Take a moment to visit the site and return to it regularly as it will be continually updated with everything new and exciting about the planning, construction and celebration of the New Library. We welcome your ideas, comments and feedback which you can log via the blog.
