Library Friends & Stories
The Macquarie University Library Friends Foundation was formed in 1986 by Eoin Wilkinson, the University's second University Librarian (1971-1987). It provides a focus, both professional and social, for all those interested in the Library and its future.
As part of the Library 2010 project, Library Friends are collecting Library Stories to commemorate the 40 year history of the current building.

1968: Imagine another time... another place...
It is an age filled with expectation, a landscape in transformation, a generation in motion.
You turn towards the camera. Sunlight on your hair. Destiny in your hands. Is there a question on your lips? Is there a suggestion in your eyes?
The raw landscape of the new Macquarie University lies behind you. From your rooftop balcony on Building E7B you survey your domain and challenge the future. The skeletal frame of the new University Library hangs suspended beyond your right shoulder. The gaunt tower of W6A spikes the western skyline, while plumes of smoke spiral skywards from where the market-garden farmland stands in silent witness to the future site of the Sports and Aquatic Centre.
2008: 40 years have passed since you stood upon your rooftop eyrie. Much has changed since then. The world is a much more fragile place. The University wears a gentler face.
Dream woman: maiden of the 60's. Who are you? Where are you now? Memory-keeper, story-maker, goddess from another time. Your youth has passed, but perhaps not your innocence? Reveal yourself again. Tell us your tale...
