IntroductionThe Lachlan Macquarie Room is a unique historical link between Macquarie University and its namesake: Lachlan Macquarie, the fifth British governor of New South Wales in the period 1810 - 1821. The Lachlan Macquarie Room is located inside Macquarie University Library (on Level 1) and is a complete reconstruction of the original ground floor parlour room of Macquarie's house on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. The room includes all the original timber panelling, doors, windows, alcoves, shutters, and fireplace dating from the 1820s. The contents of the room were donated to Macquarie University in 1966. The Lachlan Macquarie Room also contains a collection of artefacts and memorabilia and a small display of photographs and maps relating to Lachlan Macquarie, his family, and the history of the house.
Access Group visits for members of the general public (not school groups) can also be arranged.

The original stone house is still standing on the estate on Mull and is adjoined by the Macquarie family mausoleum containing Macquarie's body, that of his second wife Elizabeth, and their two children, Jane and Lachlan.
