How to Find Film Reviews
Film review databases - Film review websitesA number of databases provide citations and/or full text film reviews.
Difficulty may be encountered in searching a phrase like film review since
it might be best searched as:
- a phrase
- as two separate words
- or the term movie or criticism may be better used.
Hints: Where possible choose the Advanced Search screen and enter
the term as a phrase in one of the search boxes.

APAIS Full Text (Australian Public Affairs Information Service)
This database is indexed by the National Library of Australia. It contains
both citation (from 1978+) and full text (1995+) It primarily focuses
on Australian material. Phrase searches are automatic, join terms together
with AND. Enter the search as

Australian Feature Films
This CDROM covers the first 100 years of Australian cinema (to 1995).
Brief film details are provided, including articles, citations to reviews,
stills, awards and video clips (for some movies). Request this CDROM (RefOffice
A/V PN1993.5.A8.A888) at the Reference & Research Advisory Desk Level

EBSCOhost
This database provides full text articles. Dates are from 1965+. The database
uses a search template. Enter the search film review in the first box
and the director, or title or subject in the second box.

Expanded Academic ASAP
This database is a multidisciplinary, international database. It can be
searched for citation and full text material. Dates vary with journal
titles.
Select Advanced Search (on the left bar)
In the first box type movie review
In the second box the name of the film or director or actor/actress

Film Index International
Information on this database was compiled by the British Film Institute
Library and Information Services and the National Film and Television
Archive. There are two databases, the first contains information about
approximately 90,000 films dating from 1930 or further (Chaplin), the
second details personalities. Both databases are linked. Data is current
to 1998. Available as a CDROM (Ref Desk PN1993.F54). Ask at the Information Desk on Level 2 of the Library.
Searching:
Click the magnifying glass icon to locate the search screen.
Type in the title, director, personality etc.

Highlight the entry required
Click View Full Record

MLA Bibliography
This database provides citation and abstracts with some linked full text.
Although the database doesn't contain film reviews it provides review
articles about films and film genres. Dates are from 1963+
The database automatically searches phrases. Join other terms with AND

Web of Science
This database is international and multidisciplinary. It has only citation
and abstract entries. Dates are from 1992+
At the Web of Knowledge Screen select Web of Science
Select the Arts & Humanities Citation Index
Click General Search
Enter a subject or film title or name (ie director) in the Topic search
box
