Magnispectives

An exhibition of painting by Janette Oechsle, based upon organic forms in nature, such as corals, shells and flowers. There is a relationship between the forms found in plants and animals and those that are found in the human body. In this instance, tiny objects and forms are presented on a large scale to evoke the connection between the viewer and the object in the painting.

Visualising Culture

Moments from anthropological fieldwork conducted with a Sydney Aboroginal community 'Darug Custodians' 2001-2002.

Co-curated by Edna Mariong Watson, senior artist and Darug Elder, Leanne Mulgo Wright, artist and Darug woman, and Kristina Everett, PhD candidate in anthropology, Macquarie University.

This exhbition is a visual representation of the work that Kristina Everett has been undertaking with a community of Aboriginal people in Western Sydney sometimes referred to as 'Boorooberongal Darug.' The 'Boorooberongal Darug' are descendants of the traditional Aboriginal owners of a large part of Sydney. The materials on display include paintings, artefacts, writings, and photographs relating to the community's artisitic development over theperiod 1996-2002.

Gallipoli: Then & Now

Curated by Bronwyn Alcorn, Museum Studies honours student, Macquarie University.

An exhibition exploring the Anzac image and the public portrayal of the Australian soldier. The changes in the construction of the facts and the way the legend has evolved have an important place in Australian cultural understanding and self-awareness. Exhbition items include books, photographs, and memorabilia.
