The initial conception of this website developed from an exhibition of children's art held at the World Education Fellowship International Conference at Sun City, South Africa in 2001. Funding from the Mabel Harriet Sutton Bequest supported a project partnership between the Macquarie University Library, and the Institute of Early Childhood, Macquarie University to develop the website.
A wide range of people have contributed to the project. In particular we wish to thank:
David Andrews in Johannesburg, Michelle Jersky, Laura Cusack, Eileen Kalucy and Alexandra Harper in Sydney, for their enthusiasm in facilitating the original exhibition. Fabian Astore for initial consultation regarding the website concept. The teachers who worked with the children whose paintings appear here: Shilpa Shah, Mumbai, India Elizabeth Safer, Vienna, Austria Suzanne Press, Sydney, Australia Rosalind Kitson, Sydney Australia (formerly teaching in Brunei)
Above all, we wish to thank the children whose paintings inspired the development of this online exhibition. Children's artmaking can often present a mirror in which adults see reflected aspects of their own remembered past and future. In each of the cultural settings represented here, children's artmaking is viewed and valued in different ways. We invite responses to the exhibition through the discussion forum: www.mq.edu.au/studioexchange/phpBB2/
Project conceptualisation, research and development: Margaret H. White
